4 days Nyungwe primates safari

Overview

This safari is designed to suit the interests of those tourists who are interested in chimpanzee tracking and spotting other primates in Nyungwe national park. There is a lot you will explore and discover including primates, large mammals like bushbucks, leopards, duikers and many others, bird species, butterflies, unique vegetation cover and much more.

You will therefore take part in different activities such as chimp tracking, canopy walk, Kigali city tour and many more others. this safari involves encountering great photographic points where you will be creating a great memorable experience.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and transfer to your booked hotel

On this day one of your safari to Nyungwe national park, you will be picked up from the airport and transferred to the hotel in Kigali city by the assigned safari guide. In case if time allows, you will visit the local markets like Kimironko market and museums.

Day 2. Transfer to Nyungwe NP after a short city tour

Begin the day with breakfast and take a short city tour in Kigali where you will not miss out to visit the Kigali genocide memorial center which is known to be a burial ground for over 20,000 innocent people who died in the 1994 Rwanda massacre. Also, visit places like Inema art center and witness the different art pieces, head to the milk bar if you enjoy taking milk and this will be the best moment.

Immediately leave Kigali and head to Nyungwe national park with a stopover at the former presidential palace museum where the former president of Rwanda died in a plane crash. Nyungwe national park is known to be a destination in Rwanda with 13 primates but most of them are small in size and they are both nocturnal and diurnal. Arrive and check in at the booked accommodation site depending on your type of travel/ budget travel.

Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking and Canopy walk experience

An everlasting and exciting day will begin with breakfast and then a short drive to the park offices where you will undergo a briefing session. This briefing is conducted by the ranger guide and this will cover different events like the guidelines to follow while in the forest like do not mimic or repeat what the chimps are talking, be assigned with the park guide who will take care of you as you search for the chimpanzees and many more others.

Begin the experience with a bottle of water and a backpack with a snack. Spend an hour in the presence of the chimps taking photos and recording memorable videos and this will create everlasting memories. Spot other primates like the vervet monkeys, L’hoest’s monkeys, red colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys and many more others.

Head back to the lodge for your lunch and later embark on an afternoon canopy walk in the Nyungwe forest. This experience gives you an aerial view of the forest and entire surroundings since the rope bridge is suspended at a height of 70 meters and 160 meters long hence taking 2 to 3 hours of adventure. There is a lot to explore such as the voices of chimpanzees, bird species and other primates like the black and white colobus monkeys. Return to the lodge in the evening.

Day 4: Nature walks and transfer back to Kigali

Walk through the designed forest trails with a park ranger guide in the morning after breakfast and this will be the last activity on a great 4 days’ safari. Spot more of the primates like owl-faced monkeys, blue monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys and much more not forgetting the bird life such as paradise flycatcher, white-headed wood hoopoe, Rwenzori turacos, Rwenzori batis and others.

After this trek, embark on a road back to Kigali and board your flight back home and this will be the end of 4 days primate safari to Nyungwe national park.
