4 days Congo gorilla Safari and Nyiragongo hike

Overview

This is one of the great African safaris where you will encounter the mountain gorillas in Congo and again hike Mount Nyirangongo one of the most active mountains in the world. All these will be found in one National park which is Virunga. Spend an hour with the gorillas during a gorilla trekking experience which will offer you the real lifestyle of our beautiful cousins.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Virunga national park in DR Congo from Kigali Rwanda

Be picked from any agreed point in Kigali by our tour representative and you will transfer to Virunga national park in DR Congo. This park is located in the heart if Virunga massif and hosts the endangered mountain gorillas and chimpanzees. The park also neighbors different volcanic mountains and among others are Nyamuragira and Nyiragongo which are both active. Cross the Goma border with enroute lunch if the pickup is in the morning.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking tour

This will be the day you have been waiting for most of your life and it will begin with breakfast and then transfer to the park offices where you will take part in a briefing exercise. During this time, you will be told about the dos and don'ts to follow while trekking and be told about behaviors of gorillas and the inhabitants of Virunga national park.

After begin the trek with guidance of the park ranger guide and the potters in case you have extra luggage. You will after, spend an hour in the presence of the beautiful creatures though the whole experience can last between 2 to 5 hours while in the jungle. You will after, head back to the lodge for the rest of the evening and this will be the end of the day.

Day 3: Hike Mount. Nyiragongo and view the boiling lava lake

Head to the starting point where you will receive a briefing and acquire some materials which you will use while on the hike as you do the registration. All this will be carried out in the morning after breakfast, start the hike with a help of the ranger guide and the trail used is so amazing since you will be encountering different attractions like the different vegetation zones, primates and if you are lucky enough, you will spot the gorillas. The overall hike takes about 5 hours including several stopovers to the summit and while there, you will have a view of the boiling lava lake. Enjoy your packed lunch on the summit and then head to the base camp where you will spend a night.

Day 4: Descend Mount. Nyiragongo and transfer back to Kigali

Have an early morning breakfast and later descend to the ranger post where you will sign out and meet your driver-guide. The descent is easier which means that it takes a shorter time and you will straight away head back to Kigali this will be the end of the 4 days Congo gorilla Safari and Nyirangongo hike.
