4 Days Akagera National Park Safari
Trip overview
This 4-day excursion takes you to the Akagera National Park, which is located in the eastern region of the country of Rwanda and stretches along its border with Tanzania. This is the only savannah park in the nation, and it is made up of low mountains, savannah grassland, and marshes. It is home to hundreds of bird species, like a shoebill stork, as well as mammals that are prey or predators, including zebras, elephants, giraffes, lions, and more.
From the beginning to climax of the tour, the guide will take you through Akagera park's various attractions as you engage in nature walks, game drives, boat cruises and other activities. Your tour begins and finishes at the predetermined location, and everything else—including meals and lodging are taken care of.
Detailed Safari
Day 1: Pick-up and transfer to Akagera National Park
Following a successful landing at the Kigali International Airport or at the designated pickup location, the driver/guide will greet you and go through the details of the excursion before driving you from Kigali to the Kayonza and Nyagatare districts. This road tour reveals the breathtaking landscapes, undulating hills, and scattered homesteads of the Republic of Rwanda.
After arriving and enjoying lunch, you can participate in any optional activity as per your choices. After dinner, have a calm snooze to end the day.
Day 2: Full day game drive
A morning wildlife drive lasting three to four hours takes place in the vast savanna grassland after you've enjoyed your sunrise breakfast coffee. While lions, leopards, and other animals are hunting, buffalo, giraffe, zebras, hyenas, elephants, elands, bush backs, duiker, klipspringer, and other animals are grazing or keeping watch since their stories might end at any moment. But in order to come across them during a hunt, one must be fortunate, especially for the cats. The first session of the game drive is followed by a lunch break and time for leisure.
The sunset game drive is next, during which you can perhaps see animals like lions and hyenas that move at night and take advantage of the darkness. Spend the evening and next day sleeping at the resort.
Day 3: Sunrise Birdwatching experience and sunset boat cruise
Start your day with a scrumptious breakfast at the lodge, and then get ready to explore the marshes, woodlands, and swamps with the birds while using the guide and birding book. It is a task that takes about 4-5 hours to complete. The checklist of the more than 100 bird species that have been spotted here includes, among others, Ruppells griffon vultures, raptors, brown snake-eagles, dimorphic egrets, Red-faced Barbets, shoebills, sooty falcons, western reef herons, yellow-bellied erenomelas, and more.
After lunch, the afternoon session will take place in Lake Ihema in Akagera park's southern region, which is home to a school of hippos and crocodiles. The animals and aquatic birds will be discussed during the boat ride, which should last an hour or longer. You will return to the resort for refreshments, a campfire experience, and more after shooting the shots and doing more. After dinner, the day comes to a beautiful close.
Day 4: Departure
You will check out of the lodge following the resort's morning breakfast and transfer to Kigali city, where you will spend a few hours taking in the city's various historical and cultural landmarks. You will go to the memorial to the victims of the Hutu and Tutsi Rebellions in 1994, which is located in Rwanda. The journey will then conclude at the prearranged drop-off location after you drive around the neighborhood markets to buy some mementos.
